Starting on October 3rd, Sylvia Brooks will make her debut performance at the M Bar for a much anticipated series of Friday late night performances. With her dynamic sextet, featuring some of L.A.s top jazz musicians and musical direction and arrangements by the incomparable Mr. Tom Garvin, this is a show thats not to be missed.
As a rave review of her recent appearance at Catalina Bar Grill so appropriately puts it: Ms. Brooks is back, and thats a great thing! With a vocal styling and sultry stage presence that harkens back to an era of truly legendary singers, some may say that shes a cross between Judy Garland and Julie London but all will say that she has a distinctive sound all her own.
As an accomplished performer, Sylvia has headlined at the premier jazz clubs in Los Angeles, New York and Miami. And now, Tom Garvin, who has written and arranged for Diana Krall, Anita Baker, Sarah Vaughn and Carmen McRae, has masterfully arranged an outstanding selection of songs from The Great American Songbook for Ms. Brooks, guaranteeing an evening of uniquely rich and original music.
