Musical Performance featuring This is Hell, Four Year Strong , I Am The Avalanche, A Loss For Words
"We just play exactly what we want to hear," explains Dan O'Conner, referring to Four Year Strong's combination of hardcore and pop-punk. Sharing an average age of 20 years old, these five bearded guys have already self-released an EP, making themselves known on the Smartpunk Top 100 sales and Purevolume's "most played" charts. The band built their own stage sets, booked their own tours, and made their own music their way. The debut full-length, Rise or Die Trying, premieres September 18th on I Surrender Records. Already, the album has generated an excited buzz across the web, with over 45,000 plays on each Purevolume and Myspace with nothing more than a taste of what Rise or Die Trying will bring.
Four Year Strong
Similar to contemporaries Set Your Goals, the guys of Four Year Strong own an obvious love of bands like Lifetime, Gorilla Biscuits, and New Found Glory, which ultimately helped them bring to life an aggressive and melody-riddled combination of hardcore and pop-punk upon their formation while high school students in Worchester, MA. The lineup of vocalists/guitarists Dan O'Connor and Alan Day, bassist Joe Weiss, drummer Jake Massucco, and synth player Josh Lyford was cemented sometime around 2003, though a form of the band had already been playing together for a few years prior.
I Am the Avalanche
I Am The Avalanche covers a broad spectrum of sound and emotion. "Dead and Gone" features clawing guitars, bobbing bass lines and a dreamy, harmony-laden chorus, "Murderous" is colored with a reggae-tinged rhythm and an infectious power pop riff. "Green Eyes" starts with an aching guitar line wrapped around a bare vocal and evolves into a chugging rocker with an incredible refrain, and "I Took A Beating" is a fist-to-the-face track charged with attitude and anguish.
