Writing for Short Film

This workshop, led by produced writer-producer, CBS Television Studios staffer, and former UCLA school of Film and Television professor, Harrison Reiner (see full bio below), is limited to 8 writers. In this intensive workshop, writers and writer-directors conceptualize and write film festival-quality short films. The filmmaker comes to the workshop with a minimum of five short film concepts. Workshop's… Show more director identifies each filmmaker's most dynamic short film idea which is then developed into a narrative short film of 20 minutes or less in length. Emphasis is placed on originality, character development, story logic, and compelling story resolves. Existing short films are screened and discussed relative to their strengths and weaknesses. Guest filmmakers whose short films have appeared at international film festivals will visit the workshop to talk about their road to and through the festival circuit. Film festival programmers will come to the workshop to discuss the selection process--what they look for in short film.
