An old man speaks up and says, 'Let me go, I am wise and experienced.' A young man says, 'Let me go, my legs are strong and powerful.' The children say, 'Let us go, we are young and have our long lives in front of us.' Then a beautiful Zhuang woman, who was pregnant with child, comes forward and says, 'Please let me go. If I cannot make the journey all the way, then the baby in my belly can continue on the road of our ancestors toward that beautiful place of the sun.'The villagers agree with the wisdom and courage of the young mother, and so she is chosen to make the difficult journey in search of the sun. Along the way she gives birth to her son, Le, and educates him in the ways of the world, and prepares him to overcome the many obstacles and difficulties to complete the mission.After the death of his courageous mother, Le continues on his own, and in the course of his long journey he falls in love. For a time he forgets his mother's counsel and the expectations of the villagers back in the cold valley. But in the end, Le remembers the powerful words of his mother and the purpose of his critical mission. He perseveres and through his enduring strength and the hope of his people he crosses the horizon and arrives at the beautiful place where the sun rises.This vivid and thrilling folk tale is presented through breathtaking traditional dance sequences from Guangxi and its people. With colorful names like 'bronze drum', 'hydrangea dance', and 'grab the fireworks dance', the traditional styles are infused with modern dance technique to create a unique combination that pulls all the elements of the story together in an exciting and emotional experience. Brilliant costumes are inspired by the traditional dress of the Zhuang, Miao, Dong and Han people.
